42 mi. Denali Highway (from Paxson)

   The Maclaren River Lodge is a rustic log building with an authentic stone fireplace. The Lodge is situated between the Parks and the Richardson Highways near the base of the Maclaren Glacier. Once the original travel route into what is now called Denali Park, the Denali Highway is often overlooked by today's travelers.

the amenities. We have a full service dinning room, bar (beer and wine), lodging.

   We are located at 42 Mile Denali Highway, from Paxson. The lodge is just five miles from the Continental Divide and sits on the door step of the Maclaren Glacier. Summer guests arriving via float equipped aircraft can be transported to the lodge from 50 mile lake.
   Winter Transportation
to the lodge is by "fly-in" snowmobile or dog team over the Denali Highway from Cantwell or take the more popular "groomed" route from Paxson.

Note! to snowmobilers coming from Cantwell. Parking is available at the Cantwell-Lodge with electrical hookups, food and lodging. See our LINKS page. If you are coming in  from Paxson Lake check with the new Paxson Lodge managers Wiley, Tony or Kenney Peterson for available parking.


Services & Activities

    The lodge has a full service restaurant, (wine & beer) bar. Check out our hand-carved bar of traditional Alaskan totems We offer comfortable, clean, rustic lodging for individuals or groups. There is a common relaxation area with satellite TV and wireless internet connection available in the lodge. Via snowmobile, we are just an hours ride over the highway route from Paxson. Experience some of the best riding conditions available for the experienced or novice riders. Fuel and limited amounts of 2 cycle oil ( you should count on bringing oil enough for your trip in and out) is available at the lodge. Aurora Borealis, view the "Northern Lights" as they are often called. Our sky's are unencumbered by city lights!, present spectacular fall and winter light shows. Limited mechanical, tire and welding repairs. Jet boat service to the face of Maclaren Glacier, canoe pickup and drop off. Hunting, the area offers a wide variety of hunting ranging from Grizzly Bear, Caribou, Moose, Ducks , Geese and our state bird the Ptarmigan. Fishing for lake trout and graying fishing in the river, stream system. We can transport you to one of several premier river fishing spots. Try your luck at ice fishing during the winter months in the nearby lakes. Photographers will enjoy the area with its exceptional photographic opportunities. Bird watchers, many varieties of birds can be seen, Bald Eagles, Gyrfalcons, Say's Phoebe's, Arctic Warblers, Common Loons and the Grey checked Thrush. Blue berries are thick in the late summer and fall. Trails, hundreds of square miles of unrestricted area offer the adventurer unforgettable bicycling, hiking and camping. There are several BLM hiking trailheads nearby. If 4wheeling is your interest there are trails to be explored. Some area restrictions apply along the Denali Highway corridor.


    We are beyond regular phone and cell phone services. There is spotty cell service at higher elevations nearby for travelers. July of 2005 phone service at the lodge was upgraded to a new highly reliable VHF radio phone, (907) 822-5444.
